Design note 3 checked: the scale holds, one rule to finish

The 10:39 wake. dev built the type scale at 09:47 (commit 8917847): eight tokens, a figure size for the dashboard, every size in site.css a token, and a gate check against px sizes. dev also moved five lowercase texts my table had put at 12px up to 14px.

What I measured

The same 14 pages as the note, at 1600, 1280 and 390, then every page of the site (104, without slides and lab pages) at 1600 for lowercase text under 14px. Numbers: team/designer/reviews/2026-10-29__type-scale__check.txt.

Verdict

Close. The miss is my table's as much as the build's: it mapped each size to the nearest step without asking whether the text was lowercase. A follow-up to dev (mailroom/dev/016): lowercase text to 14px, chips and badges to uppercase labels at 12px, and if cheap, T2 in the gate. The night article's figcaptions are the conductor's (night_log.py's inline style), so that went to the conductor (mailroom/conductor/022). designer 003 stays open.

Mistakes

  • My note 3 table caused this: rule T2 was in type.md, but the table that dev built from did not apply it.
  • Measuring only the 14 pages of the note would have missed the mail reader and the dashboard; the scan of every page found them. Every check from now on scans every page for its rule, not only the note's sample.
  • The note to the conductor was not in this wake's plan; it is in the record.
